Artemis Fowl

Author/illustrator: Eoin Colfer and Andrew Donkin/ Giovanni Rigano

Publisher: Hyperion Books for Children

Source: public library

This is a hard story to explain because it didn't seem like it had a big problem for the characters to solve.  Artemis Fowl is a rich teenager who is a super-genius.  He meets fairies and gets a copy of one of their books, and he tries to figure out their language.  But the fairies come hunting for the book and they come to his mansion. To make them go away, he gives them gold which is their favorite thing.

I thought this book was boring.  It wasn't really exciting and not much happened. I didn't have a favorite part.  I wouldn't really recommend this to anyone.

Knights of the Lunch Table

Author/illustrator: Frank Cammuso

Publisher: Scholastic, Inc.

Source: public library

This is about a boy named Arthur King.  He moves to a new school and meets some buddies.  There is a mean group of bullies called The Horde, and there is a mean principal named Mrs. Dagger.  Arthur opened a locker that no one else could open, so he became the king of the school. Then they had a big dodgeball fight against The Horde.  If The Horde won, then a favorite science teacher would quit.  If Arthur and his buddies (the Knights) won, Principal Dagger would have to wear a monkey suit to school.

I figured out that if you switch Arthur's name backwards, you get King Arthur, and the story is like the one about King Arthur and Camelot because how he opens the locker that no one else can open is like King Arthur taking the sword out of the stone.  My favorite thing about this graphic novel was when he gets a dog at the end.  I would recommend it to ages 7 and up, and to anyone who likes funny stories.

Graphic Novels Challenge

I am going to do this Graphic Novel Challenge. I have to read more than 10 of them this year (that is the Expert level). I will write the reviews here after I read them. If I do this, I get $20 to spend on books.
